Seems that no matter where I buy my seed mix its going to have too much sunflower for my liking soooo what about this for an idea ?
To a 30 kilo bag of small parrot mix I might add a small bag of budgie mix ....dont know how much to add but first was wondering if this could be a solution .
And if it is a goer then how much budgie would be alright ?

Easier way might be to buy a bag of budgie & add the amount of sunflower (& safflower if you use it) and go from there. I buy all individual seeds & mix my own, that way you know there is no waste.

Individual seeds here end up costing a small fortune compared to ready mixed seed ...
Will have to google whats in Budgie and go from there ....dont know what % of what to add to it though , all I know is if this keeps up the hens will be too fat to fit in the nest boxes come breeding time .

Problem with premix is it varies every batch to what is availible & cheap at the time, you can get one bag with a good amount of canary, sunflower & safflower, the next bag will be nearly all Yellow Panicum, & hard pressed to find any canary or safflower. Even when I was getting seed mixed in Brisbane, the ratios over time were changed, & the price increased to compensate for say canary, when they were actually reducing the amount compared to what we were ordering in the mix.

always handy to have some white millet on standby to help thin out the mix...have had to do that a few times...but adding budgie mix even easier , but if its like the crap we can get over here its almost all oats....pete

I buy the budgie and add safflower. My lovebirds get this, parrots get the pellets. I offer sunflower in a soaked mix which is frozen and often mixed in with the frozen vegies. This way I control it.

Dry Seed is so poor these days compared to even 10-15 years ago. I can remember when the Canary seed was sold in 60 kg bags and it was good quality.
I used to buy Blue Budgie as it was 60% canary seed, then they started changing mix ratios and dropped the canary %. Sometimes I purchased Love bird/small parrot mix. I don’t think I ever received too much sunflower seed in the mixes.
I now just mix my own to minimize wastage and feed the sunflower seed soaked.
