There are still quite a few on the Northern Beaches, if you know where to look. Dee Why Lagoon has hundreds of them, Narrabeen lakes have a few, so does Oxford Falls and up near Avalon. Lovely birds, shame their introduced...craigvdl wrote:Glad to hear they're still out in the Western suburbs of Sydney because sadly they have long ago moved on from the northern suburbs.

Does anyone know if the Californian Quail that are around can sit and rear young properly or do most of them need incubators ?

This is another problem of rising costs you must have a job earning $100k+ to afford a decent hobby these days with all the restrictions on this and that you need to travel to legally drive or ride a racing type vehicle then insurances etc. Now the price of seed to feed birds, I myself incubate to get the numbers to cover costs of my hobby. And they wonder why kids walk around and misbehave the parents can't afford to pay pay pay all the time to keep them entertained, and as for clubs the insurance is pathetic. I've drifted on a rant, but I'm old please forgive

I have heard of a few pairs that will raise their young. My pair wouldn’t sit though. I have a mate who had a pair of Jap’s that would raise their young so it is possible.desertbirds wrote:Does anyone know if the Californian Quail that are around can sit and rear young properly or do most of them need incubators ?
