Pic's of the Amherst's I just bought, delivered to Gunnedah, makes them cheap without freight. Had pic's of parents sent to make sure they weren't hi'breds. I bought the young pair to go with my others.

You'd be doing well if you could pick the hen from a Golden or hybred. I'd hope most breeders would be honest and give you the truth. They are beautiful birds. I'm sure you'll enjoy them I used to keep a pair of goldens as a kid in Tamworth but never got them to bred although the hen went down every year so I think my guy was shooting blanks.

The parents, especially the cock, look to be pure, with no Golden Pheasant in them. He has no red or orange around the top of the legs, a deep red crest with an emerald green forehead and orange/red tail feathers with correct barring on the rest of the tail. All signs that there is no Golden in him.It was getting difficult to get pure Lady Amhursts a few years ago but selective breeding and culling of hybrids has resulted in pure stocks being available. Another good thing to look for in the hens is a Terra-cotta coloured face, found only in good Amhurst hens (only some of the feathers in the adult hen show this ) and greenish coloured legs. (Golden hens have a more orange tinge to them). Looks like you've done well, The moult next Dec/Jan will reveal all with the youngsters.

Nice pheasants…
Dad had a heap of the Golden’s when I was younger; the chicks loved running around and through the pumpkin plants near the main veggie garden.
I may get a pair in the future.
What did you pay for the pair Buzz?
