Patch on emblema

Ive been banding the birds I bought a couple of sales ago. The emblema hen was worth a pic. At first I thought it was a plucked area due the colour which is a skin tone, and never gave it a second thought but on closer inspection it seems like the feathers are a lot lighter in that area, only about four or five feathers.

very interesting.... could be a small amount of pied feathering, or could be a diet deficiency wherever it came from? I know in some birds dietary deficiencies can cause melanistic feather colouring. also age.

We look forward to next months pics which will show if this is still so.

Then you can brag about breeding pied Painteds.

No thoughts of pairing back to her father? Just to see if he is responsible for the patch...

if it was bought at a sale the father wouldn't be up for sale most likely...

No access to the father, so I will have to wait and pair her back to a son and see if that works. All this is based on the fact that shes not an ancient bird and the lack of colour is something different and not age induced.
