greedy magpie...

I shouldn't laugh, and I couldn't at the time..today I was out walking my little dog and she suddenly stopped and stared over at a standard chain fence with morning glory all over it and an old broken wooden fence behind it.Then I saw why, there at the bottom was the most thoroughly trapped Magpie I have ever seen :purplex: .
He was wedged in with his head in one hole a foot in another and one wing caught tight in another and his other wing was out and caught in vine.I tied up dog about 5 meters away and spent the next 20 minutes trying to free the stupid creature who had a bite like a clamp and claws like godzilla!! oh yes and seemed to want me dead,.I finally got him free only to realise that he could not get up as there was only about 4 inches between the wood fence and the chain wire ,so then had to ,with help from a very scared cyclist get him up by the legs bit by bit through the wire to the top about 6 feet :gurn:
After we both sat for a while he made it up into a tree thank goodness so was OK(magpie not cyclist he had taken off)
I imagine with antiseptic my cuts may not turn to Magpie-itis or something and my bruises will fade..
cause of it all in my guess??? about 2 inches in front of fence was a really big button spider ,you know those big orb weavers you see at night ,poor old magpie I think he may have thought he would grab it and spider had his revenge
I have never thought those wire fences could be dangerous!!

Something over its head would have reduced the injuries ( jacket , hand towel etc ) . Just in case it happens again.

Dear BENSONSAN

Good to see that not only yourself but others are on the same wavelength. The good Lord only knows what was going on behind that fence the night before for it to be in that condition!!!!!!!!!!!! :shh: :silent: The "Morning Glory" to which our fellow bird fancier was refering is a noxious weed vine with large purple/blue flowers. (GOOGLE IT) Nothing too biologically hazardous I'm afraid! Hoping that this clears up any confusion :?
P.S. I      when I realised what you were

The credit goes entirely to BENSONSAN for his unusual thought processes and his unique way of seeing the situation at hand! (so to speak) ;)
Where did you find the other smilies that you use?

oh my god I just nearly laid an egg when I realised what benson sam thought :o ..iv only ever heard of the vine!!!..just that idea I had to run and wash my hands!!
yes all I had on me was a tissue and a freezer bag to try and stop him biting me,its a bike path that has no houses around but there are often loose dogs and cats along there ..I was afraid if I left him he may be attacked while I was gone.I was about 20 min from home and even to get to the houses that back onto it would have taken me at least 15 min to return they are not accesable from where I was and I had visions of him being headless or something when I returned..I didnt even have socks on ,just crocs and im a female so cant just take off my shirt or something
I did wish I had my phone as my cousin would have laughed.I was just glad he could fly,I didnt fancy having to look after him if it couldnt

Ahh, The imagination runs wild "A woman in 'crocks' with only a tissue and a freezer bag trying to lay an egg" :wtf: Oh well at least you kept your shirt on, wouldn't want to startle the neighbors.
