Before you consider softbills you need to be aware that, on average, a pair of softbills demands more space than a pair of finches, even if they are similar in body size so you may not physically have enough room for everything you want to keep.
Realistically, only silvereyes fill your needs at this stage if total compatibility is required. Everything else is either aggressive at some point in its life or if compatible, is less arboreal than you want.
Most, if not all our easier softbills will take artificial diets (this is what makes them easier). Silvereyes, have in my collection, bred quite fine in single pairs in brush as set up for finches so growing plants aren't essential but they certainly feel more at home if they are provided.

Hi Jayburd,
We definitely had the hanging parrots in the 90's, but haven't seen any recently.
As with many of these things, who really knows what's about anyway?

Yes . . . what is the latest on the EBAG/ National Registration/ Son of NEBRS or whatever 'nick-name' they are using these days

Seems to have gone off the horizon of late, but these things often reappear from nowhere

Oh well my hanging parrots won't becoming with me - they bite the toes off Java sparrows anyway! So hanging parrots are still in Australia I'm glad somone persisted and is laying low. There may be hope for the OBP or it will go the way of the Southern Star if it's left to the Authorites and "experts". Paranoia is a wonderful asset to have as it ensures that some things survive because all too often if you're too nice you get taken for a ride!

Where would I find these articles Jaybird?

Cheers.

I have decided against silvereyes for now:
* it seems most for sale are from th big aviary and never settle down to breed although become cheerfully enough eventually.
* they are apparently he garbage guts of the bird world quantity wise and I flt I better to put the money into other birds rather than food or a bird that even if they did breed were basically worthless for the money involved in raising them.

On day, when I have a little more money and I can track down real aviary bred ones but ight now I have other priorities.
