Lovely topic, I know! our quails usually have nice rounded droppings, not too large, and not overly smelly. however in recent weeks they have been doing very large elongated ones, almosts the size of a small dog I guess. Is this normal, or is it a sign that something isn't right? Thank you for any suggestions.

You answered your own question. She sits tight and only comes off when the pressure gets to much. (So to speak)flap wrote:the female had been laying and is now sitting.

It's as Buzz has said Jayburd. Because the hen is sitting most of the day, she stores her droppings in her cloaca until she comes off the nest. Then when she goes....she really goes!!
