First stage defences are up.

Poly went up on the side for wind protection but will stop the miners landing.

The netting is for testing prior to ordering new netting to fit. I used Rivergum coated self tapping screws along the eave to hang the net which is quite invisible, as is the poly, from even a (short) distance.

Hopefully that will keep them away, at the very least it will give the finches time to get clear.

My finches too suffer from the noisy miner. They were bad last winter then didn't see them much during summer and now they have starting coming back :x i too put up the bird netting and the poly carb but hasn't deterred them much. I was thinking of setting up a low amp electric fence type system to sit about 300mm above the aviary & top of the sides to stop them landing. Has anyone thought or tried such a set up?

Try hanging a plastic snake up above your aviary, but ensure your birds cant see it

Ive just bought a large plastic owl figurine (with large beady eyes) as well as a rubber snake. I will move them around daily but not really expecting any results. Its better than not doing anything as I have already found a couple of dead finches and had one break its leg.

I like the extra netting idea but my partner says it would spoil the appearance of aviary too much and she would rather have no birds than an ugly aviary.
