Yes Tiaras and I did tell the new owner that I didn't know what he would be like as an adult as it outside my past experiences and she was quite happy to move him and a mate to an aviary if he did become too nasty .

I think most Grass Parrots become a bit less friendly on maturity , just from other peoples experiences .

Hi Deb,

I'd encourage the lady to get a mate for him sooner than later so that he realises he is a hooded parrot and not a feathered human, otherwise it may be a waste of time trying later on when he is too imprinted. Post weaning socialisation is very important for parrots.

And a large mirror in with him until you can get a mate. Helps to socialise them and they don't think the new one is a foreign species. I've used this method many times.

She is looking as we speak for a girl .. Shes already asked me to help find a hen .
This is my ad on facebook ...

For sale .
I am looking for a genuine buyer who will do the right thing by this little bird .
He is a Hooded Parrot that has been hand reared but not so humanised that he can not go into an aviary once the weather warms up .'
He has been DNA tested , is very trusting but due to them being a bit scarce in the wild I want him to be part of a breeding pair .
He is $100 .00 very healthy , active and vocal .
Located in Dubbo please inbox for further enquiries .

The new owner and I are on the same page with this and she ( I beleive ) is genuine about buying a hen asap .

Thanks for the tips , Ive only been guessing so far but youve confirmed what I was guessing . Any one with a young hen please let me know and Ill pass it on to Faye .

Also have to say that as rewarding hand rearing this little fella was,its not a breed Id be hand rearing again unless I had too .

Theres something that just screams wrong to me with them losing habitat and the numbers in the wild dropping and now the fashionable Pieds being flavor of the month . these are a bird to me that need to be breeding in the pure form just in case they go the way of many other Aussie natives and not in someones loungeroom as a pet .

It was a different bird to rear , easy as in feeding but its temperament was much different to my usual companion babies . Beautiful little bird none the less .

my friend Mr D/C has some young Hooded Parrots for sale on his website. The parent birds are a Fallow Cock bird with a Split to Fallow Hen. The young, which include young Fallows and several splits are ready to go. All birds are parent-reared and of nice quality and size. Check this linkhttp://australiangouldian.com/birds-for-sale/
