Is Horse hay ok for birds

I put some horse hay into the avairy,the canaries loved it picking the seeds ect
My little girl(8y) works on Saturday morning at a local horse racing stable so ample supply..

Think it gets a bit dodgy once it gets wet .

I use hay as well as other grasses, works ok but they do prefer swamp grass if you can get some, heason strips are better . Like deb said don't let it get wet will rot and grow bacteria

I use long cut grass but change it every week. Suggest the hay is fresh hay and not used hay ie not from stable floors.
