Ive got a pair of Chestnuts i brought about three months ago. After a quarantine period i released they in the big aviary, since then they have had three separate nests and laid up to five eggs in each, all have been infertile. How long should i give them? if i had to replace one should it be the hen or the cock?

Do you have a definite pair firstly? Have you seen the cock crowing?

That would be my first question too. Then do you know the age of the birds? Could they be very young and inexperienced? In which case either could be too blame, so give them longer. Or possibly could your cock be too old and firing blanks, as if your hen is laying she is still fertile? Try increasing the greens, to stimulate them a little more.

Before replacing one try to add another pair. The length of time is really up to you. But if replacing one the cock would the one that I wild change.

As far as i know they are only just over a year. Just this last round did i see the cock crow nothing like stars or emblemas thought. The breeder i got them off didn't say if they were a definite pair or not, excuse my ignorance but what makes them a definite pair? But i will take your advice & boost up the greens & give them a couple more goes. Thanks for all that cheers

If one crows & you get eggs then you have a definite pair. One possibility solved 1000 others to go.....anyone?.....anyone?
