we are two first time finch owners from melbourne. we purchased our first finch in november of last year. and now we have 9 zebra finches. 4 adults (2 pairs) on of which are two female zebra finches that have paired up. has anyone els experienced this? also a another male/female pair that just hatched their first clutch of eggs just going on a month ago. all 5 survived and are quite cheeky. looking forward to reading some interesting posts!

I have zebbies and I have yet to come across same sex pairings in them. I have however encountered it in cockatiels and peachfaces in which case the only thing I could do was get rid of one of them - putting them in separate avairies didn't work for me as they were calling to each other constantly. In the peachface case ( this happened when I was only just getting into birds many years ago) I tried putting a couple of unattached males in their aviary and they actually killed one of the males and almost killed the other before I rescued it. Obviously zebbies are not quite that aggressive though! I would be interested in seeing how you go with them. Good luck!

Thanks @malibu_birdie. i will keep an update of what the outcome is of introducing some males into picture. we have 5 babies that hatched a month ago. and so far two have them are identified as males so where going to put them in with "the ladies" once there a little older. does it matter about age difference when pairing zebra finches?

Welcome , got to love the zebbie, dont keep them anymore myself but started many many moons ago with them, but my dad still does, so many colours to choose from these days....once again welcome and enjoy your stay....pete

well my boyfriend and i just kinda fell into owning zebra finches. its become a bit of a hobby. constantly reading up on them and researching new methods of raising them, ect.
it all started when i found a stranded baby bird who didn't survive the cold night. so we went into a pet store and i selected the cutest little bird i could find. (which wasnt the best method of chooseing a bird) not knowing a single thing about them. but the love we had for the little fella lead us to read up on her breed and how best to look after them. now we have 9 happy little zebra finches that are quite spoilt!!!
