Just had 3 BFPF fledge this afternoon. Could still be another one in the nest.
Heres some pics of two of them.

It found the sun without any problems well done .

looks a little under-cooked to me, but you get that some times with PFs.

Thats just what I thought too, especially the one I saw leave the nest. Might have to pop them back in the nest and hope they stay there overnight. I know they sometimes jump out too early for their own good so I made sure I didnt go in the aviary in the past couple of days and frighten them out.

Don't know if I should but all my birds get put back in the nest for the first couple of days , those that stay maybe needed more time those that do not obviously jump straight back out .

put all my young BFPF back in the nest before it got too dark, and they promptly jumped back out a little while later. Just been back out and put them back in, if they jump out now they will have to fend for themselves.

Its all you can do Di , instinct is telling them to leave the nest .

Even if they don't stay in the nest they are likely to want to roost together side-by-side which should help keep them warm if they can do so. The main challenge when young fledge developmentally early (especially as the nights are getting cooler) is to give them the opportunity to roost above the ground/floor. A small open branch propped into the back corner of an aviary is a good roosting spot for any such young which may find flight a bit of a challenge for the 1st few days out. Good luck with them.

Mine do that all the time too. They come out looking like little vultures. I used to pamper them and place them back in the nest. Its like a game to them to just continually pop right back out. SO I leave them now and they manage just fine.

Parrot finches I find are the ugly ducklings in my aviary. They do look splendid later on though.
