Been told by an old mate of mine that during the winter months that he gives his parrots a fatten treat of 9 grain or multi grain bread that he smears with honey. Just wondering has anyone tried this and will this work with finches ?

Basically yes ....I have given my birds wholegrain bread up until a few months ago when I started making bird bread for them , as for the honey I have nectar on hand for my Lorries and occasionally pour some over the bread for the other birds including finches .
Having said this I have also been reading about fermenting honey / nectar rotting birds beaks so it is something that can only be left in the aviary a short time also my finches are in with small parrots and I often see them eating foods intended for parrots ...monkey see monkey do type of thing.

They get chicken meat but only what they can eat pretty much straight away . The Corella and Quarrions love it and the other parrots will sometimes eat it and sometimes not .
