That first one looks pretty interesting. I might have to splash out.

Then again, perhaps not. It's a reprint of the 1899 edition from what i can gather.

Often these books are bought by collectors . .

While they may have been 'definitive volumes' at the time of their printing, and are handsome works, they often compare poorly with current publications as far as content goes. Such has the fund of avicultural knowledge increased

You would be well advised to actually see the publications, or seek input from people who have read them, before parting with your 'hard-earned', to avoid disappointment

The ABK books generally have good content, are in the main written by Australians, for Australians, and are relatively inexpensive . . And, again further illustrating the rapid growth of knowledge, many have been revised and updated

Many of the cheaper bird books, printed in Europe, are almost a complete waste of money

Bird books which cost thousands may appreciate in value as a financial investment . . but the worth of their content will continue to fall as time marches on
