These are some of my new stars that are as close to ruficauda ruficauda as I have seen in a long time.
First picture ia a male ruficauda (QLD) with a male subclarescens (WA)
The next pic is a pair of ruficauda ruficauda

Definitely the closest thing I've seen to Qld Stars lately. Particularly the much larger & slightly less intense spots on both birds combined with the greyer ground colour & pale belly. Similar features to some photos of pure ruficauda museum skins I've seen recently. Breed on Danny.

It turned out there were 5 cocks, 13 hens so setting up extra pairs won't be a major issue. Being from the zoo system they are all leg ringed and records (which should arrive next week) will be scrupuolous as to who's who and who is related.

That's an exciting find. I actually think that they look similar to the Stars here in on Luzon. I guess that even if they were "pure ruficauda" they could never get back to Australia under the present rules - I won't be taking mine in December any way but perhaps I need to come see you?!

Good luck with them, they look the goods, and hopefully with their history relatively stable, you may have true to type rufi's........I thought I did, but my very drab pair of
ruficaudas have thrown some very brilliantly coloured young
subclarescens
....not complaining, either way, Stars are great "seed finches"....ie, mine pay for just about all my feed needs

Nathan he had a special jacket made just for his zoo visit's, many many pockets all safe & secure for birds in need of relocation.
