So I'm just wondering what people think are the reasons for trying to breed birds to be bigger ?

Myself thinks that mutations should be the same size as the normals , not bigger or smaller .

And why can avairy birds not be the same size as wild birds. Healthyer is better. Bigger is not necessarily healthyer. So breed for health and vitality and bother size.

I agree that size shouldn't be a concern but the health of the speices is what should matter.

Didn't realise size was an issue, other then when showing birds.

Especially annoying when people try to make birds like Orangebreasts, Tri-coloured PFs & Red Siskins bigger. Their small size is a very important part of their overall attraction. Some birds do look good with impressive body size but generally natures proportions for finches are what attracted them to us in the first place.

well, at least Graham B from coffs is doing work trying to reduce the size of the orange breast and still keep it well-coloured.

Frankly I wonder... Where I work we have a large population of Bush Budgies flying around, and one lady came in and said "your budgies are awfully small!" we told her no, that's whatthey look like in the wild. anyway she was very stubbor insisting or budgies were much smaller than her pet and no matter how many times we explained it, she just wouldn't listen.... anyhow. I think in 10 years we might have a problem where we have Orange Breasts the size of wild zebbies, and zebbies the size of canaries.
