As I will soon have a few finches to feed I was thinking of buying my seed in bulk.
I was thinking 20- 30kg at a time.
What can I expect to pay for this amount of seed.
Is it cheaper or the same price.
Is there a better brand than others?
I will be keeping zebras, Gouldians and maybe another variety.
Regards
John

John,
Paid $1.60 a kg for 10kgs for finch mix at Enfield Produce. Is pretty good considering I have had much more success with his product when it comes to sprouting seed as compared to pet shop product. Nearly everything sprouts. Has some other mixes there as well. Be careful though if buying in bulk, storage is an issue to stop the other little ooglies that like bird seed. If you go there have a look at the seeds and green mix he has, $8 a kilo, bit hexy, but has the smallest seeds you have ever seen. Painteds and goulds love it. I just give a taste every day to keep them on their toes.

I purchase avigrain blue finch mix, 25kgs,for $30 . I put the bag of seed in an esky to keep the vermins away. I find the mix quite good and the birds arent complaining. I also get tonic mix.

i was going to say iv used avigrain for 5 years now and it seems to suit my gouldians well. and the people that make it i think are based in N.S.W, just keep it in a good container and it should be fine.

I haven't been here for awhile but different friends always buy there seed here.Pet And Wire Sales.Unit 15/19-21 Seton Road, Moorebank.NSW.2170 Ph 02 9822 8840.Tuesday to Friday 9am to 4.30pm Saturday 8.30am to 3pm . He sells all different seeds and anything for birds. I buy 20kg bag of fine grit for $19.00.This is the main place I buy my seed. I have been to Enfield Produce I saw a winter mix in a book Red Pannicum 15% Jap Millet 30% French white Millet 20% Plain Canary 35%. I went there the other day and they made it up for me. I have to say the cages were pretty dirty, out the back they had parrots in cages with so much poo in the bottom and old mouldy vegetables at the bottom. Could'nt help myself had to tell them what I thought, one thing I can't stand is dirty cages.

Lyn,
Must admit that the cages aren't real flash out the back but the birds don't seem to be stressed out. I have seen the owner (Harry) clean the cages and he feeds them with fresh seed/greens/water daily. (As you should). Nearly came home with a long billed corrella last week (not by choice) because I rested against the cage and it decided that I was his! Ouch! I buy seed from there BUT some times Harry has some weird and wonderful things there. Last week saw some greeny/yellow birds which he said were green singers. I had no idea, but just looked. I have sold birds to him and he seems to have a fair turnover. Saw some goulds he had last week which looked special, yellow backed, red head but pied/lilac breast. Unfortunatley had no room. Anyhow will continue to patronize the establishment because sometimes it is like going to the zoo!!

Try enfield produce they sell really good and cheap seed, you can choose you're own and mix it, and out the types if seeds you don't want in or you can just buy finch mix.
