Hi all, a friend of mine has a handraised green cheek conure that she is going to sell as she is about to have a baby and doesnt think she will have time to give it the attention it needs. It is about 2 years old and currently is a bit nippy as it hasnt been handle much lately. I need to find out what a fair price would be for it as we have no idea. Then I can decide whether to buy it from her or help her find it another home.

If it were my bird, and it had become nippy , then to be fair on the new owner who will need to put in a lot of effort to gain the birds trust and stop any biting issues , I would be giving away for free to a good home .
If it was to go into an aviary then $40 is about what an aviary bird is bringing in the pet shops.

The nipping is a symptom of some issue the bird is having . Sadly parrots dont adjust from being the "feathered kid " to being pushed aside very well .

Talking to GCC breeder friend on facebook and she sells her handreareds for $150( DNA cert included )but like me would give a problem bird to a good home .

It depends on the mutation, you don't mention if it is a normal.

This will be worth the least.

Cinnamon will be worth more, a Yellowsided more again with Pineapple worth the most out of the common mutations.

Yes I assumed you meant normal as you didn't mention a mutation .

I believe it is normal, but to be honest I am not up to date on the conure mutations so I could be wrong?

I just googled images of normals and cinnamons and this particular bird looks in between?

Not sure what an inbetween bird would look like, maybe it's a yellowsided??

I would say $50 for a normal is a fair price. $70 if it comes with a DNA cert. That's what you pay for an aviary bird. More if it is an affectionate pet.

They are extremely hard to move on at the moment though. I still have a few and am getting absolutely no interest in the ads.

Only way I sold mine was to a deal 1 pair Kaks and 1 pair conures for $150-00 extremely lucky to have sold them as they are just not a popular bird at the moment (neither the Kaks or the Conures ).

Sad though as they are a great aviary and companion bird .

I pity anyone who paid big $$$ for them when they were the " new kids on the block ".

They are a great avairy bird deb, so much personality, quiet and happy to see you. It is a real shame. For some reason people stay well clear of the exotics.
In regards to the cost I look at it like this; once I pay for the birds they owe me nothing. If you look at them and see the dollars you spent then you will not enjoy the hobby. Money spent is money gone.
