one pair of my zebra finches have eggs 6 to be exact, i noticed to 2 birds missing this morning both were in the breeding box is normal for this time of year have had 3 mornings at minus 7 last week.

Zeb's will breed all year if ir suits them the only problem with them breeding this time of year is the fledgling death rate which is alot higher, and yes zeb's will nest at night- they usually build a roosting nest to keep warm.

Better off starting them around Spring time than now.

yeah i wasnt expecting anything till spring with the cold weather and the fact that they have only been in the aviary for three weeks.they all like to roost in the boxes of a night even a couple of young males have paired up and roost together at night keep to warm. would it be advisable to move them inside or would they abandon they nest if i did so? or wait for them to fledge then move all they young inside(not counting my chicken before they hatch)or maybe just let them be and see what happens.

I can only say what I've read- never done this before due to letting nature take its course. The book said that if you put them in a breeding cage that the parents will return and do their business. Not sure really up to you if you want to take the chance and see what happens. Maybe other breeders are good at this and can elaborate on the subject with hints and tips.

I always leave them to do their own thing and don;t have much trouble. But 7 degrees would be pretty cold for this part of the country. So maybe once they fledge grab the young and mum and dad and move them all indoors for a week or two. What do those from colder climes think?
