Hey Everyone,

Just curious does anyone know anything about the genetics or inheritance of the fawn mutation in star finches?

Thanks,
Finchster

Most fawns tend to be sex linked, but a few are recessive. Are yours breeding? What do you have? And if they are breeding what have the results been so far? Might be able to work it out with that info, if no one else answers.

Fawns are Autosomal recessive & cinnamons are sex-linked, Graham Bull has a good article on them on his website.

Na i have a pair of fawn stars and a spair hen they where too young to breed this year just finding out what will happen if i pair her up
with a yellow head normal. I think if ive done the right workings out from the internet ill get all normal split fawns. Ill keep researching,
from what ive read they are recessive.

That mating will produce red-headed young split to both fawn and yellow-headed.

Oh sorry its not a yellow head normal cock just a yellow head so there shouldn't be any red head in there.
So it will hopefully just be yellow head split fawn young.

So just to clear things up im gonna mate a hen yellow head fawn star to a yellow head cock and that will
produce red head young? I don't know where the red head comes into the eqaution when both parents are
yellow head?

I think theres a bit of confusion here, when you said normal, it has been seen as meaning Red - headed. Yellow to Fawn Yellow will be Yellow/Fawn young.
