So Ive been thinking ( yes again ) and I kinda like the look of what Ive bred here so far .

Call is tunnel vision or delusions of grandeur but Id really like to have a go at showing some of my birds at the next local show ( 12 months away ) '
Now I know their not going to be as good as those breeders that have been in the game forever but I reckon its the only way to get some hands on experience or hands on aggravation ...who knows.

Has anyone done the bird show thing ?

Any tips on getting started ?

Is there a conformation standard ? How do I know what to look for ie. colour + posture etc.

Where does one get the proper show cage ?

Oh dear just had a thought ... how is this going to happen when the local bird club cant be bothered sending application forms ...foiled again .

I would contact the show steward of the local club and put all of these questions to them. Good luck. Yes there are usually specific show cage requirements and types to enter your birds in. No I don;t show, but mother has for years.

I think they might have heard how good your birds are and dont want the competition

There is a show in Bathurst on Sunday - Gary mentioned in another post. I was thinking of wandering over for a look - but it may be too far for you.

I'm sure anyone from your local club would be able to put you in touch with someone local who can provide details for your local show.

We aren't big in the show scene in Orange - but it's always a good way to get together and catch up.

Helped great as I have more parrots than finches and honestly do not know enough about finches to show them. Thanks for the site.

I did show lovebirds at one time.

They needed to be kept in a smaller cage before the show as straight out of an aviary the day before they will be too flighty and won’t settle on the perch.

It did stress the birds and I think the risk of disease transmission is greater these days or at least I am much more aware of the risks.

If I had my time over again I probably wouldn’t have shown, I guess if I had children I think it would be fun for them and would possibly reconsider.

Good point hammer re disease and stress . I only want to do the local show which is once a year ( if I do it ) .
I would probably be more inclined to show one of the hand reareds as they seem to be more bomb proof .

Ill keep researching as with most of my ideas they are just that ...ideas .
