One of our breeding cages has a pair of gouldians and their 3 chicks. yesterday I noticed some yellow goo (looks exactly like egg yolk) under one of the perches and a little splatter on the wall. As I didn't see any shell I assume it was in fact bird droppings rather than egg. Can anyone suggest what it could indicate and how to treat? Haven't checked them this morning to see if there has been any more.

are they droppings? or could it even be just what you say it looks like... if your hen laid an egg on the perch, it would have smashed and they would have eaten any eggshell i would think.

Maybe you are right Spanna. It looked beautiful and clear, right colour and consistency for yolk, no sign of urine with it etc. Also no other droppings like it this morning, I would expect more if a bird was sick. Will keep an eye on this but all seem happy and healthy. Counting the days till we can let them out of the breeding cabinet...

Ive had what looked like egg yolks on the aviary floor , just assumed the birds ate the egg shell since no one was sick .
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

Yes egg it is. Just had another look, there was another egg on the floor. Plus 3 in the nest
So have added nesting materials. How the heck are we supposed to stop them from nesting?????? So far we have failed miserably, can't remove birds as chicks not weaned before they start to go down again!

As long as you are comfortable that they are fit enough to go again don;t worry. If you feel they have done enough. Strong will power, remove the nest and any nesting materials and any eggs as they appear and they will get the message.

I think removing the eggs will be the way to go. i do it with the quails but for some reason not with the finches.
OBs have had 3 or so clutches with limited success so I think the hen needs a break. Gouldians have hatched their last clutch for the season I think (well the RH anyway). By the way it was definitely yolk found a second egg on the cage floor today, and one less in the nest. I think they are clearing out the nest of the infertile eggs.
