Conure Forum? + Questions about Cage

Hi everyone,

I have owned for the past month a Yellow Sided Green Cheek Conure. He's about 14ish weeks old and he's adorable. Does anyone know of any forums similar to AFF except for conures?. He was attacked by my dog last week, but (thank god) escaped with a little graze on his head and only 1 tail feather. It seems I have pretty bad luck with birds, after what happened with my Emblema hen too. Anyway just wanted to see if there was any fellow Conure lovers out there and if there was a forum full of them that'd be great too!

Just want to make sure in terms of food I'm on the right track as I currently have him on the vetafarm pellets. He has had both the south american mix and the parrot mix aswell. I'm thinking about a new setup for him and his cage, trying to get some ideas. We have a cage tidy around the bottom of his cage but it does nothing! Especially since he takes a pellet to the top of the cage and eats it and the crumbs fly all over the floor. Our floor is also covered in whatever toy he has decided to tear into shreds. Does anyone have any suggestions on a setup that stops all the mess he makes getting on the floor?

Sorry this post is a little disjointed/doesn't make sense :sweatdrop:

Hi Rach,

I assume that you are not just feeding him pellets. He should also be getting a good range of vegetables and some fruit every day. Red, green and yellow vegetables are the best.
Give him several types and vary them; use whatever is in season and freshest; bean sprouts are also good.

The only things I'd avoid are avocado, onions, rhubarb & human junk food ie no alcohol, caffeine. salt, sugar or fat. So chocolate, Macdonald's, and Bundy and Coke are out!! :).

I don't know of any conure forums, but a google search should help find one. I'd be surprised if there isn't one in the US somewhere.

here's a forum you could try, they are more into their parrot's than anything else.

Myzolema's information is fairly accurate though ;)

Aussie birds or Featherz are both great all round forums . Nice people too .

Conures loooove fruit and veg , all fruit and veg actually , mine ate very little pellets compared to the fresh produce they ate .

Thanks everyone.
Yes he gets plenty of fruit and vegetables. Apples and mandarins are his favourite. He was going absolutely burko last night trying to eat my sausage roll too. Didn't let him though haha. Thanks guys will check out the forums you recommended. I did do a search before posting the question just thought my fellow finch lovers might be able to give a good recommendation and that you did!
Also, at the moment he seems to have a funny smell. Someone said it could have been the antibiotics but I swear straight after he was attacked by the dog I could smell this smell. It gets better when he has a bath (he loves the water) but just not sure why all of a sudden he started smelling. Has anyone else had this problem?
