Recently purchased three beautiful Parsons (2 x Hen and 1 x Cock) to go with my lonely cock bird purchased several months ago from a different breeder.

The other day I noticed that my original bird is slightly different to the newbies....his beak has a red tinge to it at the base. The others are pure black.

My research would indicate that he is a hybrid with perhaps a Hecks Longtail although his tail is the same as the other Parsons???

Am I missing something?

Tony, I'm afraid your probably right about the longtail hybrid. Pure parsons have a totally black bill and any redness/paleness at the base of the bill is the first place to show a difference when birds are not pure.

Yep, he's most likely a hybrid, probably fertile as well so don't let him breed.

The cream however has a light beak so maybe it's indicating a split?

No, if the body colour is normal its doing no such thing.

Interesting dilemma....what does his future hold or is this one of those questions best not asked?

Had a parson and plumhead cross breed once, ugly looking young they had. Gave them to somone who would not breed them, instead of putting them down.
