I was wondering,
Is it ok to put Scarlet Chested Parrots in with finches?.
My aviary is 10m2.
Thanks Nathan

Yes provided there is plenty of room for them to fly and to forage at ground level ...an overstocked aviary will stress them quickly .

Watch them carefully. Scarlets have a reputation for picking on smaller birds, biting toes off and stuff like that. Seems it comes down to the individual birds though.

Thanks Nathan

In my opinion Nathan I don't like to put parrots in with finches, have had Turks, burkes and scarlet breast in with my finches at some stage or another. Have found that in a small aviery they can get a bit nippy and when they fly makes the finches get a bit frightened. I now keep hooked beaks together and straight beaks together and found that the finches were more calmer. To answer the question yes Turks, burkes and scarlets can be placed in an aviery with finches but be careful as parrots will take limbs and kill if they are not happy, so make sure you watch them and any sign of stress I would remove your parrots.

Once again I must have very placid birds . My Scarlets are passive and gentle , even now when they are courting .
It does come down to the personality of the bird itself .

I have a girl Bourke though that recently nearly took the head of a Diamond Dove ...

For at least the first month or so & with some much longer, the finches will be very scared and wary of the much bigger Neophemas until they get used to them. This can only contribute to stress levels, hamper breeding performance & possibly increase the chances of head trauma, etc. of all but the most domesticated finches (mostly Zebs). Elegants and Bluewings are often active at night which would add significantly to these problems.

I have also found deb that my Bourkes feather would get ruffled the quickest, but had 1 pair of scarlets that were just nasty even to other parrots so lesson learnt don't take any pair for granted
Jay I found that yellow Turks to be expensive scarlets to be not far off the price of Turks and bourkes to be the cheapest in exception to rosa bourkes, but that was a while ago when I was breeding parrots as well. Different times year and states would have different prices

Nathan, as you and I have discussed stick with the original pairs of finches , get to know them birds, get them to be happy, just take your time. You will never learn if you keep changing and swapping before you know it your aviary will be overstocked and birds will start dying. You will then get upset. Lets take our time young man.

Jayburd I think you'll find that scarlets are the most expensive followed by elegant and normal bourke the cheapest. The only variation to price will come with mutations.
