Hi, anyone in Queensland having any luck keeping and breeding these birds? I was lucky enough to have kept these birds 14 years ago in Townsville North Queensland - from memory these birds were very difficult to obtain back then. In my opinion a cock bird in good condition in the full sunlight will challenge any foreign finch available in Australia, for beauty and is hard to beat. Cheers

Yes they are a beautiful bird , photos dont do them justice . Hard to describe the depth of the olive green back except gawjus.
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

Yes the true lesser is a spectacular bird, not to be confused with the sub species macgillivrayi, which is a beautiful bird as well .I have seen hundreds of lessers on Horne island in the paper bark swamps of the tip of Cape york peninsula. Cheers
