Is there such a thing as normal gouldians anymore? or are they all contaminated mutants?

Unless you have pure wild normals of course.

so it is impossible then.....thats a shame...

Unless some people have them from when they were still able to be captured and have continued breeding and not used a single mutation to contaminate them, but that's rare.

Sad that as breeders we don't look into the future of aviculture and have looked after our inmates a little better.....I suppose rfpf is that way as well....and with our closed import and export there is a lot of inbreeding starting to happen too....

I'm sure there are plenty out there, just very difficult to prove that they aren't split.

Hmm wouldnt you think the breeder would know? unless he has brought in a new line I suppose....I always bred Black face to Black face ...Red to Red...Yellow face to Yellow face....but since I have been out of them for few years was hoping to start up that way again...looks like it will be a long hard road

I have had a population of Gouldians, for about eight years, which I believe are non mutation. I originally bought red faced and black faced and housed and bred them segregated into their head colours. The reds produce mainly red headed with the occasional yellow headed, where is where I got my population of yellow heads. The black heads produce only black heads occasionally with yellow tipped beaks, which I don't keep, as they are really yellow heads masked by black pigmentation. All of these I believe are just variations of the wild coloured birds. No true "mutation" has ever appeared in this population and I have never introduced any new birds to the flock.

Its the same with a lot of aviary birds .
Trying to source pure normal birds is like trying to find a needle in a haystack .
Thing is things are soon to go full circle and normals will be the flavour of the month again .
As said they are out there but you only really have the word of the person selling them , hopefully there are still honest breeders out there .

It is seeming very hard to source pure normals especially Zebras!! Tintola what you said about yellow tips on the black heads, Are they rare? are they usually normally red?
