I bought a pair of princess parrots from the Mournigton Peninsula bird Sale this year. Did anyone here go?
Anyway, we bought a pair of princesses, but later, we found out that a certain bone in the hen's win is missing, so she can't fly. She also has slightly crazy nostrils, but we got them tested, and she is ok.

My dad and I would like to breed Princess parrots, but we are not sure if we should breed with the hen? The problem is, the male is madly in love with the hen, he follows her around everywhere.

So would it be ok if we bred with her, healthy diet and all? We would make it easy for her to get food and get around, but we are wondering if breeding with her (the male is perfectly healthy) would that effect any chicks?

I'd be too scared she'd pass the deformities on to the kids...

Yes, thats what I'm afraid of too. We took her to the vet (paid almost $200 on vet bills to get her tested too!) and the vet reckons it will be ok, but I'm just not sure. My dad was thinking of just selling her, but I'm quite attached to both of them, and the male will be so sad to see her go.

AND YES!!! I seriously hate dishonest sellers too! But I think I learnt my lesson sort of… When we first saw them, the male (Percy) was very happy and excited to see people, he blocked the hen (Annabeth) from view. I wasn't too sure about the Annabeth, but I liked the look of the male, and asked if I could get him, so then I could go look for a female. But the lady kept on saying "It would be a waste!" because he is a lutino/split and so was Annabeth. She was going on that he won't produce yellow chicks much if we mixed him with a blue/split or any other, and so we sort of felt pressured to buy the pair. They cost us $170 (my dad offered $150 but she didn't like it) and then we discovered her 'handy cap'

Its not really the cost that worries me, but its the whole breeding thing. I'd hate to sell her. She and Percy are true lovers, and to me separating them would be cruel. But my dad is very intent on breeding them, and he won't be too happy if there is a chance Annabeth's problem might pass on to the chicks.

From what you have described I'd take a guess that the problem with the hen is a result of in breeding. Fair chance the cock bird is related as well. It,s your call but I'd be replacing her. If you do decide to please be honest to the buyer about her issues.

If your going to breed you want to breed from good ,strong ,well conformed and normal parents else your selling inferior bloodlines to innocent buyers .
Dads just going to have to learn from this mistake as we all do.

I tend to agree with Buzzard sounds like they are related.... I would get another hen..

No, they are definitely not related 'phew'

We have their papers, Percy's dad was a lutino/split, and his mum was a lutino, and he is a month or two older than Annabeth.

Annabeth's parents are both lutino splits.

BUT I have just been talking about your comments to my dad, he I both decided we are going to keep them together, but buy a smaller aviary, so they can just hang out in there, and we are currently planning to 'replace' them with another, normal pair In the near future.

THIS time I am definitely going to pay close attention to the birds!
