Nest and eggs

Today when feeding the birds I noticed two new nest, but I also noticed both nests had an egg that seamed to have dropped out of the bottom of the nest but only by about 1cm. I managed to push one of the eggs back into one nest with a twig, the other I couldn't get near without doing damage to the nest and brush. Is this the right thing to of done or should I have just left it to eventually fall to the floor?

You did the right thing, Sounds like you need to supply finer softer grasses and/or feathers.

Cheers, think it was the cordons nest that I managed to save it from. They seam to love the finer grasses, feathers and swamp grass to make there nest. The other nest ( I think is the stars) I couldn't get too, seam to have preferred the winter grass and the much larger longer grass for there nest. The goulds are the only ones that use the nest boxes. My pair of painted are the only ones who aren't showing any interest in looking at nesting.

Try small sticks, charcoal and bark to see if the painted get going. Don't expect a architectural delight if they do nest.
