Button quails, which to keep?

Hi all
Been keeping and breeding King Quails for yonks, currently breeding an odd mutation hen to see what happens, but been looking for another challenge in button quails. Only question is, not sure which species! What would people recommend as a step or two up from King's? Feeding live food is no problem, though maggots and woodies (feeder roaches) are the preferred live food, as i breed both myself.
Cheers,
Spanna

Littles seem to be popular and probably a small step up from King quail. If your after a bit of a challenge go for some Black Breasted.Interesting quail but i found thema bit flighty if i didnt put in the time.Love to dig and the hen is a very pretty bird, youngsters are cute.

I have kept and bred black breasted, but i reckon i'd give the littles a go first, when i get the chance again.

I was thinking littles would be the next step, but really do lime the look of the black breasted! I think it may end up being a case of what I can find more than anything else! Anyone got any unrelated pairs of any of these in WA?

So do tell about the King Quail mutation? You can't go saying something like that and not spill the beans.

The hen was one that popped up last season, paired up with what I think is a split cinnamon cock from Flap. I'll post pics soon in another topic. She's a bit odd...

I love odd. Just ask my kids, they say I am odd.

Looking forward to seeing her Spanna.

Painteds are my favourite Button quail. Beautiful markings on both sexes. Much more attractive than Littles (my opinion).

The lack of humidity might be a problem with Black-breasted as they are from east coast rainforest edges.

Hmm, you make a good point Tintola. Might invest in Danny's book on quails and do some more research on specific species needs...
