What nests will the start finches breed in? I have a pair and they must want to breed but just not sure what nest they use, i was think the dome nest like the zebras use..

Stars are very shy...do not like a sniff of any nest inspection or look....they usually build there own nest in brush out of sight....

so thats why i would like to know what nests they like to use and nesting materials etc..

you could try cane nest....you could put some brush in there to hide there nest area but I have never heard of any breeding in Breed Cages...Others may have though

My Stars, which have successfully reared about 12 clutches the past four years, have always built in long grass but they are currently in a cane nesting box...much to my surprise. The silly thing is that I disturb her sitting everytime I go in the aviary????

The cock bird loves long grass (especially stems of green panic and the like) and will fly from end to end with a piece in his beak...I bet that if you give them a cane nest (the vase shape one) and some grass stems, they will build for sure. Another option might be to roll some aviary mesh into a cylinder....

An update with the pair of stars: i got them a dome nest about 2 days ago and have noticed they have started to use it which is a good sign The only thing is they red faced parrot finch and the pair of stars are always chasing each other around the aviary being relatively aggressive to each other, this was happening even before i put the nest in. Can anyone explain to me why this would be, the stars are in a mixed aviary and all the other birds are fine, i think perhaps the stars see him as a threat or something. And I don't want to take the parrot finch out because he needs the room to fly because he's so active.
