Id lay $$$$ they will raise young .
Painteds are so laid back I doubt being in a cage will stop them.

Thinking like a Painted ..I can hear them saying something like .....whoa small cage dude yeah , way cool , so compact , less flying , yeah , cool , love it .
Seriously these birds have got an awesome personality and seem to be more stress tolerant than other finches , I really hope they breed for you .

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

Oh I have bred heaps of them over the years...and yes they are sooo placid....even when Butcher bird swoops or lands on cage they just sit very upright and still..(poor guys now I keep them in annex lol)...on a different note, was on the block today and stepped out the first avairy....15m x 4m x 2.4m high....facing NNE only the front will be uncovered 6mm square mesh...still working out planted sections and concrete areas 45cm footings....probably do cutouts in concrete to plant out in...hopefully to lessen rodent ingress...few other ideas but will wait till we are living there to start...cant wait
