Found one of my female ruddies on the aviary floor 2 days ago. all fluffed up and not overly active but bright eyed. Placed her seperate to the others and hoped for the best. My other birds were all okay.

That afternoon, she was looking normal, flying and still brght eyed. On the floor of the cage were 2 x eggs. Am thinking that she had been egg bound but had recovered from it luckily. Still looking great after 2 days.

Any ideas if this could be a re-occurring factor with this bird or hopefully just a once-off??

I'd keep her away from the cock for a few weeks and feed her well with plenty of calcium and vitamins available to build up her reserves.

Whether it recurs depends a little on her genetic make-up, her age and her nutrition- and also whether the egg-binding has caused any permanent problems internally.

If you put her straight back in with the cock then the chances of her becoming egg bound again are much higher- and the risk is that the outcome may not be as good next time.

I would do the same but add her to a good flight cage for plenty of excercise
