?? :? Ok I may need to appologize for a silly question but I know in the aviaries that the mice are attracted to the seed and any other food available,
but would they take baby finches?
I know i had 3 babies 6 days old yesterday and today there are 2 and there is a mouse hole!!there was no sign of it on the ground. :worry:

Hi From my experience mice generally disturb the nest but I don't think they eat baby birds .I could be wrong .I suppose the key is to really be diligent to stop the mice getting in I use that mouse wire around the avairys. And make sure your entrance door has a very small gap at the bottom.Because there is nothing worse than mice in an aviary...

It may be debatable as to whether they eat baby finches

BUT

They will certainly eat the seed which is in the crop of a young bird

AND

Rats will eat anything

Now, on to frogs
:frogg:
People say that frogs do not eat bird's eggs . . They may not

BUT

They certainly eat the young birds which hatch from the eggs

Protect your birds from all three

I have had mice all my life and domestic mice will eat a dead mouse so I would think a bird is possible, they also eat their own young if they are stressed in first 24 hrs

Mice eating young, well I've had dead young in the nest with crops brains and intestines all eaten, eggs will go also. I had a bad year two years ago with the only thing breeding in my aviery were bloody mice. I tried all the prevention methods bait live traps inside snap traps and bait on the outside and even poured a concrete slab on the inside but the buggers chewed trough the wooden frame to make tunnels underneath, by god did I learn from that mistake and when I've built my new aviery I did some real thinking into the plans. As I've said that mice will eat young they will also take over the nest to breed, I've also lost a few birds to night frights and I had a couple of birds lose a toe which would be my thought as to a mouse biting it. Rats are just as bad or worse never came across one yet, some lizards a snakes could also be a problem.

One of our baby king quails was missing, and we searched the entire aviary for him, but we figured the mice dragged him away. I have a friend who has a large aviary, and the mice and rats come in the night and kill, injure, or frighten the birds.

So I think the answer would be yes!
