Spent ages trying to get a mate for my split boy then gave up and got him a normal mate from Pete at the BBQ. Now he is happy.

A lot of pied on that youngun wildbill. Unfortunately I think the price has come down to be almost the same as normals since this thread started.
And I just noted Tiaris' comment from 2011 (below) which I'd not understood before - now I realise why Ruddie Roosters never look as pied as the hens!
Tiaris wrote:Stays true once they are mature but cocks will have pied markings overridden by red on the head neck & upper chest as they mature. Pied markings usually only show on the lower half of the torso, wing flights & tail of mature males. Hens can look heavier pied because the brown doesn't override white as she matures & hence show more obvious pied markings on the top half as well as below.

What are you feeding them???

When I kept ruddies I would be lucky to get 7 in three nests

And they had what I regarded as 'everything'

7 is an exceptional clutch. 5 is my PB for Ruddies over many clutches.
