these pair of pieds have just produce their first young - appears to be only two but their pied marking are similar to the parents
cock bird with one of the young

The pied parents look great, but did you upload the wrong photo of the cock with young? Doesn't look like a ruddie chick to me?

My guess would be that it is a young gouldian in the foreground of the bottom photo with the young ruddy on the right

My boy is split pied and I have the same problem as Butterfly. Need a hen for him. They are a beatiful little bird and the pied seems to stay pretty true.

Stays true once they are mature but cocks will have pied markings overridden by red on the head neck & upper chest as they mature. Pied markings usually only show on the lower half of the torso, wing flights & tail of mature males. Hens can look heavier pied because the brown doesn't override white as she matures & hence show more obvious pied markings on the top half as well as below.

I just picked up a dozen or so and have chicks on the perch already - cost me the same as normal ruddies.
