Albino Kookaburras occur naturally in the wild ...Am I right ?
They have no camouflage from predators so rarely survive ...Am I right ?

So do Crows (and probably many others)...but they kill them off themselves....

Healesville sanctuary have an Albino Blue winged has been in their collection for years....I haven't been there for a few years but I swear he would have to be around 10-20 years old now if he's still going.

..but they kill them off themselves....

Is that so they dont attract predators and put the family at risk ?

Or because they are different ?

Hard to say as the parents must have raised them in the first place....then others come in for the kill...have seen Crows covered in flour or such and the others doing the same thing to them...so maybe it is because they are different..

My 5c worth - They dont kill themselves off, a lot of naturally occuring mutations also carry a floored or fatal gene. I think we can see that with blue Gouldians, red peachface lovebirds (the list goes on). They are just weaker ,less resitant to diseases and predation, im not religious but thank god for that. Most only survive because we give them every opprtunity to do so.

Yes another way of looking at it....and yes I agree I only want normals I'm afraid...although some mutations are attractive I just prefer a la natural...Even all the mutated Goulds and Zebs around I personally don't think anything better then a normal bird in full colour...

Isnt this thread about you seeing a BW Kookaburra?

He is a ripper by the way (if he is anything like that googled pic) but its hard to read the thread going off on a mutated tangent ^_^

Lesson learnt? Keep your bloody camera close to you!
