I know we have gone on this rave before and I don't want to rehash it all but I thought that this was an interesting example.

I try to explain punctuation by saying it's like a code for the reader to make sense of someone else's writing. Without the code, you can't understand it and reading becomes even harder work. Punctuation is only there for the reader, because when you write you have knowledge which the reader doesn't, and therefore you need to use the code to make yourself understood.
