Here is a pic of the latest manipulation! A Wompoo Fruit-pigeon squab.
History:
Parents laid egg, wouldn't sit,
Egg put into incubator until it started to pip, ( 21 days)
Egg placed under foster parents (Rose-crowned Fruit- doves) whose own egg was infertile,
Egg hatched, fosters fed and brooded chick for 9 days then had trouble feeding it enough and covering it to keep it warm as they are only about a third the size of an adult Wompoo,
Chick taken for hand rearing today, (53 grams) in "humidicrib" at 32 deg as I type this and is feeding well on Wombaroo squab rearing mix with added fruit puree.
Fingers crossed all goes well.

Looks good, at least he got all the good ooglies in his gut from the fosters to kick him off. Hope all goes well, I'm sure he's in good hands.

That's the one Deb but this photo you can't see the deep plum coloured chest. Have a listen to the call in the link that you sent. Oh, that's right your son has your speakers , doesn't he? also, I got the one you sent to turn around so that you can see what the chest looks like.

Fledging should be at 15 days. Weaning could be anywhere up to 6-7 weeks. I have hand-reared Purple-crowned and Rose-crowned Fruit doves before and this should be no different, apart from some slight diet adjustments. I will avoid as much as possible, malimprinting by rearing it with a mirror in its brooder ( so that when it eventually sees another of its kind it will be familiar with the sight) and it will be socialised asap with other Wompoos. No it won't be following me around the house ( you should see their droppings) as it will be going into a breeding program with other Wompoos. Eating well this morning, will do some update pics soon.

Both sets of parents are very pretty birds. Cute little tacker.

I so wanted to hear what noise it made that I went to *censored* Smiths and bought a set of speakers . As with everything it wasn't that easy and no have to download drivers and reformat computer . WHY is it always so frikkin hard .?
