Guess what guys!! I was just talking to our local gouldain finch mutation breeder and at the beginning of this year and he got onto a reccesssive dilute gouldian which many people think are now exstinct but as I was talking to him he told me he now has over 30 and many splits. He said he was selling them for $200 a pair. After this year he will be selling up his entire stock to go a settlers village. Decisions decisions. to get one or not to.

Far from extinct, I know of at least two breeders very close to me. Just unpopular due to lack of colour, so harder to find. It's your money Ralph, so to speak, but that sounds a bit dear to me. But don't get one bird and waste a season breeding up from there, get one and a split and build up from there if you can.

Is this the same breeder you are getting your blue from? I also have a breeder near me who does very well with them and I think $200 pr is a little high, but it's up to you if your willing to pay that much for them. I think $120-$150 pr is a fair price for them.

Yeah same breeder. He told me that he found it really really hard to try and find them. Personally I don't really want them plus I'd probably have no money left after I get all my new gouldians. I was just a bit bewildered Thats all. I guess they are expensive for him because he started off with only a few and found it so hard to find, but aparently that's proving not to be.

Yeah I thought it was, he had several pair shipped to him from the breeder near me last year. If you don't want them now, don't rush into it as breeders can be found for you if you decide down the track to keep them.

There was a guy down the road from me, he had 1 large aviary in particular which would of housed at least 50-80 Dilutes.
He has photos of his birds on the Belgium Erythura site.
Since then he has sold his birds and moved on I beleive.

i bred bout 5 of theses recessive dilutes last year but passed them onto another breeder friend as i went out of gouldians not sure if hes still got them but i sold them for $50 each i think it was there was either 2 cocks 3hens or the other way round theres a pic off one of me youngs uncoloured ones in the mutation section. it was the first i heard of them to wasnt aware at all

What is a recessive dilute???

Looks like a normal dilute but it's recessive meaning you need more than one parent in order to produce that colour.

John has good quality birds. Being local you know that the birds are acclimatized and you can see his setup/conditions etc. All his birds will be for sale soon. You being a junior local club member I am sure prices will be negotiable for you. Save your dollars and buy only if you need too. As gouldians are so plentiful someone else will have what you want in the future.
