I just checked one of my Zeb nests it has 5 babies in there about a week old.
But i found 1 dead baby on the floor of the cabinet it was not there this morning,why would this happen????????????
It looked in good condition and had a good crop.??/

The parents probably kicked it out. maybe there was a disturbance, there are endless reasons as to why the parents would kick them out.
One of my baby zebs got kicked out the other day ago and was in perfect condition and i have no idea why they did it.

Zeb finches are manic , theres no in between with them its flat out or dead still .
Hopping in and out of the nest all the time one of them may have accidently knocked the bub out or threw it out when cleaning the nest .
Who knows but these things happen sadly . Hope the other 4 do OK for you .

As jusdeb has said hopping in and out all the time by the parents can cause this, I've had this problem with a few a my pairs this season, the reason I think is that the parents have not built the nest deep enough, in other words not high enough at the entrance so the chicks are easily dragged out if the parents come out in a hurry.
