Honestly all, I've read and read how to tell the difference and I've got NO idea!posting.php?mode=post&f=39#

I've included a photo - it's the best I could do as these guys don't sit still for long.

The challenge is on! I'll stick my neck out and say male in the middle, left and right both females. I haven't even a 50/50 chance either. Just as well I don't have a flutter.

I would take a guess at 3 cock birds there, only basing my guess on the width of the bars

My dad used to say "I can't tell the difference but the ones that don't lay eggs may as well be males".

Someone on the forum has got to ask a stupid question> Otherwise no-one would laugh!

Anyhow, I reckon the male is on the right just based on the brighter chest and face. I know not foolproof, but desperate to not have three cock birds (no wander their not nesting!).

You mean the one closest to the flash (judging by the reflections behind "him" on the back wall).

Like longtails, and lots of others, I reckon DNA is about the only bet.

Like all the rest its hard to tell from the photo, but here goes ,look at the arch under the beak of the bird, if the arch is sharp it should be male,if curved slightly female ,so one in middle cock, hen to right, and cant see on the left, hope this helps see you gary.
