Following the success of yesterday's Double Bar sexing...anyone got an idea on these two? Apologies that the photo is not better quality.

Male left, and I think it's a yellow mutation male on the right :)

At a glance from 50 metres away, it looks like 2 cocks. Its hard to get a yellow cock thats as good as a red (but not impossible)

Thanks again. Can I ask what distinguishes these from hens? I've got one more in the aviary that I could't get in the photo. The red cock in the photo has been chasing it around the aviary for about a week now. At first, I thought they might be two cock birds fighting over the yellow mutation 'hen' but maybe not...

Cocks have got red (yellow if yellow mutation) down on the chest. Hens have white dots on the black bar on the chest. Painteds are easy, especially once you have seen one of each.

Cock birds have more colour, all the head, under the chin and quite a large splash of colour down the belly. They also are the ones that make that weird sounding call, the hens have very little colour on the head non under the chin and a smaller splash of colour down the belly.
There are some pics in these topics
halfway down are 2 excellent close up pics of a cock and hen

I know how you feel I have three boys in the bachelor aviary, they are desperate to pair up with hens, they are building a nest in the treat seed bowl. I will just have to wait till the eggs from the pair I have hatch out and hope I get at least 3 hens.

I'll put a 'wanted' on the forum and hopefully there will be a breeder/s in or near to Canberra.
