Today we got our first singer, a green singer hen. We are getting her a mate from another breeder in the next week or two. Will post pics when I get the chance to take one!

:( :( :( the butcher bird got to her....
I had even put a piece of alsonite on the cage but coudln't fully enclose it because of airflow. I am so sad and also so mad.... If I get that bird....

So sorry to hear that Flap. Maybe shade cloth would be better. Provides protecting and air flow.

Yes good idea. Will fix that up as we use that cage under the patio for quarantine. Might also hang CDs around the patio to discourage them... Hubby who is against violence was threatening to get an air gun this morning!!!! :o

i know its not real attractive, but have you seen those prongs that the councils place on light posts and buildings to stop pigeons landing?

Maybe you could attached a couple of them at perch level, it would stop the butcher birds landing on the wire.

Not sure what you mean, will have to have a look at buildings and see what is up there! actually I have also just had an idea, :eureka: making a light wire frame and put threads of fishing line across. Would let light and wind through but hopefully stop the butcher bird getting close to the wire.... Might need to get thick fishing line though as the one we have is too fine.
