Animal, vegetable, mineral? Definitely not a bird.

Not a finchy subject, but I know lots of aff-ers keep other creatures, and was hoping someone might know what this is:
alien larval pod 2.JPG
alien larval pod 1.JPG
It is inside a turtle tank, about and inch long by half an inch wide and deep, soft and not smelly.
It appears overnight, and we have two now.

There is no movement or development evident over about three days.
It is inside a house, so large insects and most small insects are unlikely to be able to access the tank.

I know that dragonflys among other insects lay their eggs above water, and thought this may be something with aquatic larvae (maybe good turtle food?).

Any ideas would be welcome; we are still tring to figure out if it is a friend or foe to our turtles...
