Hi all any body got any thoughts on why painteds throw out more than other birds .I had a pair that kept throwing out young so i swopped the next round with bengies the painteds reared 4 big healthy bengies then went on to rear there own young after that and havent thrown since

Some birds like some people are crazy. Were they a young pair?

Possibly disturbed by mice? Other more dominant birds? Eliminating possabilities frequently leaves the answer.

Hi defo no mice they are in there own large cage 4x2x2 .I asked the question because not many people over here can get them to parent rear and fostering doesnt work either just wondered if you lads do anything different with them than us ,we cannot get termites over here so we use mini mealworm and fruit flies

Never had problems throwing chicks,I have had 6 fledge in the last few weeks ,2 nests ,4 red, 2 yellow.
Ensure thay are getiing plenty of greens and cucumbers,a little charcoal, very easy to breed.They also love plain red pannicum seed

Thanks for the replies ,i,ll take your advise on board ,but there are not many breeders that can get them on the perch over here ! and they seem to be the in bird at the mo ,there,s alot of people after them
