Saving a baby Gouldian ??

Hi All,
I have this 6 day old baby gould that has been given the boot out of the nest, There was 2 unfertile eggs in the nest yesterday which i took out leaving just the youngster, I saw the father feed him this morning, but i also saw the Cock & Hen doing the mating ritual, I checked up about 30 minutes ago and found the youngster on the cage floor.
I wan't to do my best too save him, Is he too young for me to hand raise ?? He's healthy enough , Ive got some egg and biscuit mix which i will try and feed him through a syringe.
Any advice would be great.
Cheers Freddy :purplex:

Should be easy to feed at that age. Keep it warm above all else. Found a link for hand rearing on this site:
http://www.ladygouldianfinch.com/featur ... g-myra.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I WAS writing an article (or small book just about!) on hand rearing, but uni and work got in the way so not finished yet, so can't help with that.

I used Vetafarm Neocare to successfully hand rear the young gould I had. Good luck! PM me if you have any questions not answered in the link...

Best of Luck with the chick, we have tried a few times but as yet have not been too successful, but always feel better for trying. :thumbup:

Cheers Greg.

Thanks Flap and Bushranger,
Sorry to say that the little one didn't survive, As it was my first experience with a abandoned youngster, At least i tried but it wasn't to be !!
Hopefully i wont get to do it that many times in the future, I think it was a bit young [ 5 or 6 days old } anyway i'm better for the experience !!
Cheers Freddy :purplex:

Thats a shame Freddy, I can sympathize with your loss, Ive never been able to successfully rear a finch. Im dreading looking in the BFPF nest this morning as I noticed a really tiny one in there a couple of days ago....so today it will either be dead or need some kind of intervention. :thumbdown:
