A friend advertised for a blackbird hen on Pet Link. This is a reply that he received:

"Hello there
cute English blackbird for adoption, the re homing fee $300, vet checked and DNA tested. tame and registered akc,
Has never plucked.
,she has a closed ring, she is very talkative, sings, whistles and dances likes being out the cage she is tame with me, new people she will take about a week or so to come round to you and sit on your arm etc, very sad sale just i sadly have no time for her, she comes with a very large cage, am currently located in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia where my new landlord do want bird around.
my regard
Maria"

So what we have here is a $300, hen English Blackbird that looks like a racing pigeon, that is tame, talks, sings, whistles and dances and the landlord "do (pronounced 'doe' ) want her around."
I don't' know what akc is (American Kennel Club maybe)
Not sure if "Has never plucked" has anything to do with her having a "closed ring" or not. :shifty: Maybe not a good bird for breeding. Well, she's too busy doing all that singin & dancin & impersonatin pigeons an stuff, isn't she?
Do you think he should grab her before someone else scoops her up?

Yep, I had a reply to an ad I had on petlink looking for zebbies, where the guy/girl offered them for free, and that all I had to pay was transportation. This quote worked out to be $1000 for 20 birds. Turned out they were in Colombia!! Well, so the person said. I just told them to bugger off and stop bothering me as they kept e-mailing even when I said I wasn't interested! Eventually said I could pay $100 and they would pay the rest- yeah right!!!!

Just for your viewing pleasure here are some pics of a nest of Blackbird nestlings in my garden. The parent birds have been resident for at least 4 years and this is the 2nd clutch this season, saw the last young but not the nest.
They have built the nest in the grapevine behind these two apple trees

I didn't know they had nested there until the dog started showing some interest in the grapevine, just sitting there watching, crying softly. I went looking as I thought it might be mice.
On the first look there were two chicks and one egg, seeing the size of the chicks I really didnt think the third egg would hatch. The young must grow even faster than finch chicks.

Thanks Di for the pics. They do grow very quickly on the high protein diet of mainly worms and insects, and will leave the nest at about 2 &1/2 weeks. You must live in a pretty dry climate as they normally line the nest with mud to bind it all together.

They would need a jack hammer to get at some of the "au natural" soil around here. Its clay over limestone in this area. We usually plant on top of the local ground build up around each plant and fill in with bulk bought mulch. Over time it creates a good depth of soil.
The Blackbirds do have access to several sources of water to the point of taking a daily bath in front of the family room window.

Thanks for the pics, BB.
Beautiful babies, and some good-looking apples, too.

Glad you reminded me about these pics
Taken today 4 days after the first lot of pics
P1010075 (640x480).jpg
P1010079 (640x480).jpg
Not quite as clear as the first lot but still 3 young and well feathered. The youngest of these chicks would be 6 days old maximum.

Re the apples good looking is about all they will be, we havent been able to harvest any to eat due to the Musk parrots eating their way through them the last couple of years.

And here are a couple of the culprits..Musks.

They aren't the only culprits, we have seen Rainbow Lorikeeets on the tree too but they are way to wary for me to get a pic of them. We also have Adelaide Rosellas I think too, as I nearly got one of those in the face this morning when I took these pics, it didn't hear me creeping up the path and took off right towards me.
