Just wondering if Hoodeds roost in a box or log ?
And also this ..... there is an existing cockatiel box in the avairy which has been virkoned /coopexed and has fresh sawdust but was going to be replaced next week with a insulated box with a tunnel and clay ( other halfs holiday project ..one of them ) anyhoo the boy has been sleeping in the tiel box for a couple of days and now the girl is in there .
Should I leave them be or discourage them until they get the reccommended insulated box ?
I can see a failed breeding season and egg binding by interfering and dead chicks by not interfering ....help please .

Are they coloured yet , I can't remember. Mine don't sleep in a box ever, unless she is incubating. I would get the teil box out as it is still a little early and with your winters your only chance of success is with the proper insulted or heated box. Not too big,
(internal box) only large enough for her to comfortably sit on eggs and raise young. (15cm x 15cm base x 15cm high that will keep it nice and cosy.) The nest chamber in the termite mounds is surprisingly small.

He is puffing up his chest like a good sort and seems to have become blacker on his hood .
The insulated box is finished now just waiting for the mud to dry in the entrance tunnel ...was I suppose to pack it in , like the whole tunnel is solid . Its probably 3 inches long , was going on dimensions in my Grass Parrot book
Other half reckons she will die of exhaustion digging her way in but I reckon if digging is foreplay then Im gonna have lots of babies anyhoo should I start digging it out for her ?
And how much do I crumble up inside the nest and is this with sawdust as well ? Sheesh Im flying blind on this one .

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

Better not dig Deb, "YOU" don't want to have any more babies and do you really want to deprive her of the foreplay?jusdeb wrote: I reckon if digging is foreplay then Im gonna have lots of babies anyhoo should I start digging it out for her ?
